England will field a host of new caps in an eight-strong squad for a one-day Under 16 international against Wales at the Monmouthshire Golf Club, Abergavenny, on Sunday 5th September.

England and Ireland romped to resounding victories over Austria and Switzerland respectively as the European Senior Men’s Team Championship reached the match play stage at Fairhaven, while Scotland battled back to join them in the top flight semi-finals.

England Under 18 Champion Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park, Hertfordshire) and Under 16 Champion Toby Tree (Worthing, Sussex) have travelled to the United States to compete in the US Junior Players Championship over the Stadium course at TPC at Sawgrass in Florida on 3rd – 5th September.

Past champions Ireland lead after the opening qualifying day of the European Men’s Seniors Team Championship, dominated by the Home Nations with defending champions England in second spot.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (Hallamshire, Yorkshire), the newly crowned North of England Under 16 Stroke Play Champion, has been selected in a three-strong squad to compete in the Italian Under 16 Championship at Biella Golf Club on 31st August – 2nd September.

Nathan Kimsey (Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire) is one of five players, four of whom made their debuts in the recent Boys Home Internationals, who will represent the English Golf Union in the Dutch Junior Masters at Golf Club Westwoud in the Netherlands on 28 – 29th August.

Despite trailing from the foursomes, Hertfordshire bounced back to win the Boys County Championship in style at Berwick-on-Tweed Golf Club in Goswick, their first title in 17 years.

Hertfordshire’s progress towards the Boys County Championship was halted this morning when Cumbria edged the foursomes 2-1, a result that has given heart to Gloucestershire, who dropped just half a point against Derbyshire.

Hertfordshire are poised to win the Boys County Finals for the first time in 17 years. After completing their second victory by beating Derbyshire 6½ - 2½, they need just a tie with Cumbria tomorrow to finish as champions.

For most of the second morning at Goswick, it looked as if Hertfordshire would complete a second successive clean sweep of the foursomes when they met Derbyshire. But the Midlanders claimed a half in the top game to give themselves a lifeline.

Despite it being their first ever appearance in the Boys County Finals, Cumbria made an impressive start at Berwick-on-Tweed by beating fellow debutants Derbyshire 6-3, while Hertfordshire overcame Gloucestershire 5-4.

Hertfordshire took a major step towards another Boys County title when they completed a clean sweep of this morning’s foursomes against Gloucestershire, while Cumbria and Derbyshire finished all-square.

A seismic shift has occurred within boys county golf this year which will be reflected in the English Boys County Finals being played at Goswick Golf Club, Berwick-on-Tweed in Northumberland, on 24th – 26th August.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (Hallamshire, Yorkshire), Haydn McCullen (Didsbury, Cheshire), Max Orrin (North Foreland, Kent) and Toby Tree (Worthing, Sussex) will carry England’s hopes in the one-day Under 16 International with Spain at Pannal Golf Club, Harrogate, North Yorkshire on 24th August.

The lads from Boston in Lincolnshire stormed to victory with a sensational second day performance at Malton and Norton to win the Junior Champion Club Tournament.
